The head of the German Defence Force’s Department of Medical Bioconnaissance and Verification, from the Institute of Microbiology of the German Armed Forces in Munich is taking part in the training. The Department of Medical Bioconnaissance and Verification is, “a specialized unit, and part of a rapidly deployable team, designed to investigate disease outbreaks worldwide” he said.

The department head expressed excitement and gratitude for the ability to train with other like-minded nations. “It is very interesting to train with partners who you have never trained with before,” he said, “Our partner nations have different approaches and solutions, and the exchange of information and practices is really great for everyone involved.”

The bioconnaissance and verification team has enjoyed the opportunity to work alongside and share expertise with the U.S. Military and Japanese Self-Defense Forces. Commenting on the exercise he said, “We have the U.S. CBRN team here with us today, as well as the Japanese Self-Defense Forces, and we had a great exchange of material, layouts and potential approaches to different bio scene threats.”

“The exchange of information here was really great and we learned a lot from each other, and we are grateful to the Japanese Self-Defense Force for hosting Exercise Keen Sword.”
