Berlin Protesters Call for New Elections and Chancellor’s Resignation
Participants traveled from various parts of Germany, with many arriving in coordinated vehicle convoys before joining the demonstration in the capital, according to reports. Organizers claimed that around 10,000 people attended the event, while police estimates placed the turnout closer to 4,000.
Throughout the march, demonstrators carried German flags and displayed signs featuring messages such as “Not my chancellor” and “Merz must go.”
Authorities reported that the event proceeded peacefully and ended without any significant disturbances.
The demonstration was organized by Project M1llion, a non-partisan movement that describes itself as a coalition of citizens from different social and professional backgrounds. According to the group, its supporters include farmers, skilled trades workers, entrepreneurs, transport sector employees, laborers, retirees, and mothers who believe the country is facing serious problems.
The organization promotes an 11-point political agenda on its website. Among its main demands are the “resignation of the current federal government and immediate new elections.”
The platform also advocates ending financial assistance for “any kind of warring party.”
Although the proposal does not specifically mention Ukraine, Germany has committed billions of euros in military and economic support to Kiev since the conflict with Russia intensified in 2022.
According to reports, the protest reflected growing dissatisfaction among a segment of the population over the government’s domestic and foreign policy direction, with participants calling for a change in leadership and a fresh national vote.
